The Opportunity

Luxer One's solution excelled in managing parcel deliveries within private spaces, such as residential and commercial properties. However, adopting Luxer One’s smart locker systems often required a significant upfront investment for e-commerce, retail, and logistics brands—covering custom locker costs, distribution, and software development. This high barrier deterred many small-scale brands despite their clear interest.

To bridge this gap, Luxer One introduced Harbor Lockers, a subsidiary focused on delivering public, open-access locker systems tailored for broader, non-residential use. Recognizing the need for short-term, secure storage in high-traffic public spaces such as retail centers, transit hubs, and urban areas, Harbor Lockers offer self-service smart lockers that prioritize day-to-day personal storage over parcel delivery.

In collaboration with Harbor Lockers, we at Roro are pioneering innovative solutions to streamline onboarding for brands. These initiatives include:

  • A growing network of Harbor Public Lockers that enables brands to conduct low-cost pilot phases.
  • A generic white-label solution customizable to a brand’s requirements within just a week.
  • An expanding developer ecosystem to simplify application development using the Harbor Lockers SDK and API.
  • Strategic partnerships with development teams to support brands without in-house technical expertise.

Our Contribution

We’ve always believed that experimentation is the driving force behind innovation. The work we’ve done with Harbor Lockers over the years is a great example of this in action. For the renowned delivery giant UPS, we created a comprehensive C2B solution. This involved designing and developing an admin panel, a customer app, and a driver app, as well as implementing an App Clip to simplify the drop-off process.

Roro Solutions teamed up with Luxer on a pilot for one of the top U.S. retailers to tackle shoplifting, especially in California, where theft under $950 is treated as a misdemeanor. To protect high-value products, the retailer used locked compartments that required store assistants to manually unlock them with a key—a slow and cumbersome process.
LuxerOne proposed a tech-driven solution, and Roro quickly built a prototype in just 3–4 weeks. The app allows customers to scan a QR code near the locked products, alerting the store manager, who can verify the request via video surveillance. The compartments can then be unlocked either remotely through the smart locker network or manually by a store assistant.

Configurable Figma board & White-Labelled Solution

Harbor App builder Figma prototype
To facilitate rapid prototyping, we’ve developed a configurable Figma board and a white-labeled solution (Harbor App Builder) that integrates smoothly with Harbor Public Lockers. This interactive tool enables brands to experience the solution as a click-through prototype allowing brands to visualize and explore the solution before committing to full-scale development. The Harbor App Builder was created as an extension of the configurable Figma board, designed to simplify the process of testing the solution, between January to April of 2024.

Figma based flowchart project

We then worked on the Figma-based flowchart project which was a collaborative exercise between our UI/UX Design teams and the VP of Product at Harbor. The goal was to conceptualize how Harbor Lockers could serve as a solution across various businesses, sectors, and industries. The exercise explored the system’s flow, including Harbor Lockers, the client's backend, business users, and their interactions. This brainstorming session, which visualized different business models and domains, ultimately led to the creation of Harbor Pilot (demonstrated in the next few slides).
